• Aerial Sensor Operators have been employed as aircrew members since the beginning of man flight and will continue in the future (manned & unmanned).
• No formal global recognized definition of the profession exist.
• Over a thousand ASO-type aircrew jobs posted on the internet at any given minute.
• Aircrews are an integral part of making aviation safe & remote-sensing effective.
• Aircrew standards are key to safe flying & improving work conditions.

Situation:
• The ASO profession lacks a formal global recognized definition.
• Externally to the Profession – The Airborne Sensor Operator profession is not well defined regarding formal civil aviation standards around the world and most countries.
• Internally to the profession - Airborne Sensor Operators lack self-professional / formalized standards to train, equip and operate.

Bottom-line: Lack of formalizing the ASO profession effects the advancement of aviation safety, the aerial remote sensing sector, and individual ASO career opportunities.
